“We need to move rapidly. What we do in the next 3-4 years, I believe, will determine the future of humanity.”
Sir David King, ex-Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government [1]
Insulate Britain recognises and understands Grant Shapps’ frustrations over the ongoing traffic disruptions, but he is just missing the point. Sir David King has said that the next “three to four years… will determine the future of humanity”. The future of humanity, that’s all our mothers and children, all our hospitals and roads, our economy and our food supplies. Our government is not taking the most cost effective solutions to avoid this future.
The government already has the power to imprison us, for public nuisance and criminal damage. What is happening is Grant Shapps trying to have his cake and eat it – to look tough bringing in new measures while not actually doing anything.
Right now Grant Shapps, and the government he is part of, are betraying the British people. By refusing to protect the British public from climate chaos, this government is locking in the destruction of our families, our communities and the British state itself.
Three to four years to determine the future of humanity – which bit of that sentence isn’t understood? It’s going to be a total shit show and it appears our government doesn’t really care. All they want to do is bang up the messengers. It’s not only cowardly, it is an act of treason.
Insulate Britain is calling on the UK government to take responsibility for and fully fund a national home insulation programme. We demand the Prime Minister and the government, face up to their responsibility and lead our country through the climate crisis. Our actions will continue until the government makes a meaningful statement indicating its intention to insulate all of Britain’s 29 million leaky homes by 2030, and all social housing by 2025.

About Insulate Britain
Insulate Britain is a new campaign group that is calling on the UK government to put in place policy and funding for a national home insulation programme starting with all social housing.
We demand the Prime Minister and the government to #getonwiththejob, face up to their responsibility and lead our country through the climate crisis.
We are ordinary British citizens with simple and achievable demands to #INSULATEBRITAIN
The UK government must immediately promise to fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain.
We demand a national home insulation strategy that gives British people the justice they deserve: a future for our loved ones, lower energy bills and safer living conditions.
We are scared: our livelihoods are at risk and the futures of our children are uncertain
The Climate Crisis is a threat to all: we demand the government to act now.
Our Demands
1. That the UK government immediately promises to fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain by 2025;
2. That the UK government immediately promises to produce within four months a legally binding national plan to fully fund and take responsibility for the full low-energy and low-carbon whole-house retrofit , with no externalised costs, of all homes in Britain by 2030 as part of a just transition to full decarbonisation of all parts of society and the economy.
