INSULATE BRITAIN STATEMENT ON SUPPORTERS SENT TO PRISON FOR TELLING THE WHOLE TRUTH IN COURT

Today, another two supporters of Insulate Britain have been sent to prison for telling, ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’ whilst standing in front of a jury in a British court of law.

How can those in the judiciary claim to stand for justice while imprisoning good people for speaking the truth and while our government enacts policies that will result in the breakdown of ordered civil society?

The government is actively planning the death of millions, in this country and around the world, while our media outlets and the judiciary are standing by.  History teaches us that when judges and legal professionals turn their backs on morality then state-sanctioned murder should be expected to follow.

Judge Silas Reid has chosen to interpret the archaic charge of Public Nuisance in a way that renders people’s lives “irrelevant” – to use his honour’s own words. At a single stroke he has discounted and nullified those needlessly dying now from fuel poverty in Britain as well as the people dying around the globe due to floods, fires and famine caused by carbon emissions.

In 2021 we demanded that the government of the time take a no-brainer first step to end fuel poverty in the UK and lower the UK’s carbon emissions by committing to and fully funding a national home insulation and retrofit programme. Lowering carbon emissions is something the UK Government has legally committed to do. They have failed to act with anything like the scale and urgency that is required. This is criminal.

Let us be clear. In 2023, you are either on the side of protecting lives, or you are not. Right now the judiciary is complicit in upholding the criminality of a government that is killing our kids. Judges and magistrates are engaged in making a mockery of the British Justice system because they are either too scared or too selfish to do what is right.

Under British Law citizens have the right to act in self-defence, to protect themselves, their property and the lives of those they love. It takes courage to stand in a courtroom and defy a judge’s ruling, even when they are clearly wrong. It takes courage to be on a jury and hold onto your morals when being told by an official that you must ignore them.

We declare that the British legal system no longer has legitimacy in our eyes. We call on the lawyers and the judiciary to resist our criminal government. To stand on the side of protecting lives. The courts will continue to be a site of nonviolent civil resistance for as long as it takes for the judiciary to do what is right.
