“It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we must do what is required.” ― Winston S. Churchill
Insulate Britain’s protest tactics on the M25 were condemned yesterday as “completely unacceptable” by the Home Secretary Priti Patel. [1][2]
What is unacceptable, is the deaths of eight and a half thousand people from fuel poverty. Also unacceptable, is the fact that Boris will not get on with the job of retrofitting UK’s leaky homes.
By delaying carbon reduction the government is putting the future of hard-working people at risk.
Insulate Britain challenges the Government to get the homes of this country fit for the future.
The Home Secretary said the police had the government’s full support, but warned: “They must uphold the law and take decisive action. This kind of disruption is dangerous and takes police away from communities where they are needed most.”
Insulate Britain says that delaying carbon reduction is dangerous and puts the future of hard-working people at risk. We need government to take decisive action on insulating homes.
Priti Patel said: “this Government will not stand by and allow a small minority of selfish protesters to cause significant disruption to the lives and livelihoods of the hard-working majority,”
Insulate Britain will not stand by while our politicians refuse to step up to secure the future of the hard-working families of this country.
A government source is reported as saying: “The British public does not expect the police to be standing by while protesters disrupt people’s daily lives,” [3]
The British public does not expect its government to stand by while the safety of the people they are elected to serve is under threat. To make this an issue about policing is a complete red herring.
We will go home as soon as the government makes a statement that is meaningful and we can trust.
At least 40 people from Insulate Britain were arrested on the M25, M1 and M11 today. Insulate Britain expects that figure to almost double.

[1] About Insulate Britain
Insulate Britain is a new campaign group that is calling on the UK government to put in place policy and funding for a national home insulation programme starting with all social housing.
We demand the Prime Minister and the government to #getonwiththejob, face up to their responsibility and lead our country through the climate crisis.
We are ordinary British citizens with simple and achievable demands to #INSULATEBRITAIN
The UK government must immediately promise to fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain
We demand a national home insulation strategy that gives British people the justice they deserve: a future for our loved ones, lower energy bills and safer living conditions
We are scared: our livelihoods are at risk and the futures of our children are uncertain
The Climate Crisis is a threat to all: we demand the government to act now
Our Demands
1. That the UK government immediately promises to fully fund and take responsibility for the insulation of all social housing in Britain by 2025;
2. That the UK government immediately promises to produce within four months a legally binding national plan to fully fund and take responsibility for the full low-energy and low-carbon whole-house retrofit , with no externalised costs, of all homes in Britain by 2030 as part of a just transition to full decarbonisation of all parts of society and the economy.
